The capital of the Eastern Cape province, Port Elizabeth (or PE) is located on the southeastern coastline of Africa, known as the Sunshine Coast. Fittingly so, as temperatures are moderate to warm all year round. It is a major sea port, and an important centre for the South African motor industry. Within the city there are numerous historical attractions and lush, landscaped parks. However, one of PE’s greatest treasures is its beautiful beaches with warm Indian Ocean water, a haven for water sport enthusiasts. Most notably, activities like surfing, boardsailing and diving. Scuba divers can choose from a number of great spots, while the combination of calm waters and fair breezes are perfect conditions for sailing too. There are several wildlife reserves close by, like the Addo Elephant Park. The city also makes for the perfect base from where to explore South Africa’s magnificent Garden Route, famous for the biggest variety of flora anywhere on earth.
