Situated half-way between Johannesburg and Pretoria (the latter also known now as ‘Tshwane’), Midrand is a small super-city that has appeared from nowhere in the past 15 years. World-class convention and exhibition facilities like Gallagher Estate can be found here, together with large malls, modern factories, low-rise office developments and a number of residential areas scattered around. It is one of South Africa’s fastest-growing areas, as a result of its prime location between the country’s two largest cities. Apart from all the economic and industrial activity, it boasts a variety of recreational facilities too, such as golf, horse-riding at nearby country estates, and a fast-growing nightlife scene.
