Flores is a particularly miniature town in Petén of Guatemala, located on an island in the lake Lago Petén Itzá, connected to land by a causeway, where the twin cities Santa Elena and San Benito is located. For many, the Tikal, the most famous Mayan ruins in Guatemala, is a major reason to visit the town that is also the natural starting point for other tours of Petén. Flores is considered one of the safest places in the sometimes wild north, while the twin cities require a little more caution of crazy traffic, litter and street food, but offer a more authentic experience.
