A Northern region of France has a long history of the D-Day landings in June 1944. Basse-Normandie has picturesque landscapes painting with cattle in lush fields, while the country-houses are alongside the modern buildings. Visit Giverny where Monet painted his water lilies. Stained-glass windows and Gothic architecture surviving after the bombardments is still there. It is also well-known for its diary farming production, while its tourism is also a major industry. The region has direct ferry links to England, via the port of Cherbourg and Caen Ouistreham.
